Digital storytelling project - adding narration to our digital story

This is part of Challenge #3: Become a STORY NARRATOR WHIZZ. We turned our stories into videos with narration today using a Chrome extension called Screencastify. First we installed the Chrome extension, Screencastify, and then we practised narrating our stories. The extension saves them in our Google Drive. Here is mine:


My digital story - The Tooth Fairy

This story is part of Challenge #2: Become a STORY WHIZZ KID. We used stories from the African Storybook website (https://www.africanstorybook.org/) that are free to reuse and change completely, and we recreated them. We kept the art. We did these in Google Slides. Here is mine:

Review of Term 2 Challenges and Badges

Let's review the seven Challenges we did last Term, in Term 2. How many Challenges did YOU do? Did you get all seven badges? Remember, if you missed one you can make it up.  Here are the seven Challenges summarised.

Challenge #1: Become a BLOG VISITOR
Since we are participating in the Student Global Challenge we will visit other blogs and see what they are look. Look through the list of participating students and choose someone your age from another country and open their blog.  Write something encouraging on their blog. Record their blog address.

Challenge #2: Become an AVATAR COMPOSER
In order to be digitally safe create an avatars of yourself using cartoonify.de.  Add this to the side bar of your blog and replace the previous avatar.

Challenge #3: Become a SOCIAL SCIENTIST
For this challenge you will work in a whole class collaborative group and research some of the challenges facing the world.  Each person will take one of the challenges presented in two sites and answer three questions about it.  You will work on a collaborative Google Slide presentation.
a) What is the problem?
b) What can be done about it?
c) What are some interesting facts.

Challenge #4: Become a RESEARCH CHAMPION
In this challenge you will work in collaborative groups of 3 and create a single Google slide together that shows your written summary of research about an endangered animal.  Make sure you use a video icon to link a short video about your endangered animal.

Challenge #6 Become an ANIMOTO GENIUS
Animoto is a video creator. You will learn how to use it and add music and images creatively.

Challenge #7: Become a STORYBIRD WHIZZ
For this challenge you will write a story in Storybird.  Once it is finished and has been edited you can add it to your blog with one picture at the top – the cover page. The story must have
a) a beginning, a middle and an end
b) a hook at the beginning to get people interested
c) a problem to solve

 So now, let's get ready for Term 3!

Story - Helga the Warrior Princess

We love using Storybird to create stories. This is my Storybird story called 'Helga the warrior princess'. Unfortunately it can't be embedded as an e-book in my blog. I am adding my cover page and my words as evidence that I finished the story.


Helga was on a quest of self discovery.She was always forced to wear frilly dresses and act fancy , but she finally snapped. Her father didn’t let go at first , but when he saw her determination he let go and let her become herself. She met pirates,witches,fairies and nymphs,but none of them could answer her question about  the  purpose of life.

Meanwhile her never-serious kid sister.was having tea with her pet hippo, Halley, talking about stupid stuff like cartoon characters and cute princesses etc. But mostly she was drinking tea and eating cookies, and being sacred of pirates of course.

So Helga went on her own journey. it was wierd.

She saw treasure , but that didn’t help. She asked a parliament of magic ,but very wise owls some questions. Surprisingly they didn’t have an answer. They had, lived they entire lives handling issues but this was a new one. They had one thing say to her. "Go to the  pumpkin who is afraid of everything and ask him." So she did.

“Ahhhhh!” “Too scary!”screamed the pumpkin who was scared of everything.
“Don’t be scared. The owls sent me. They said you know who I am.”
 “I do you are Helga daughter of King Zoldof II  I suggest that you g home and tell them about your journey. And, listen,  never wear a frilly dress again.”

She went home and told them about her journey. Her family smiled. Helga lived happily ever after without every wearing a frilly dress or acting fancy.

Our Endangered Animals mini-project

I was part of Group 3. We worked in groups of three and did a collaborative mini-project on Endangered Animals. Each person in the group was given a different animal to research. We had to put the information into our own words and we also had to add a video icon and link a video to the icon. Here is my group's work.

My Zoom out story

On the 10th April we played the Zoomout Game. This is a follow up post. The Zoomout Game is when you add an image to your blog, and start a story in the comment section. Other classmates add to your story in the comment section. Finally we had to create a story from what people said in the comments. Here are the comments made on my blog.

1.Big Panda was enjoying munching on his bamboo until he saw something moving in the bushes.

2. Big Panda looked again and saw a lost little panda that was hungry and frightened.

3.The little panda said that it was so hungry it felt it could eat a person. Big Panda offered it some bamboo and it ate hungrily.

4. The news soon got out in the village that the captured baby panda had escaped, and the villagers that had trapped it were VERY ANGRY. It was worth a lot of money.

5.The villagers made a plan to hunt the baby panda down.

6. The big Panda heard the commotion and said to Baby Panda, "Follow me. It is too dangerous in this area. I will take you to safety."

Here is the story I made from the comments.



Peter the Panda
There was once a big panda who lived in a zoo in China.His name was Peter, he was busy eating his bamboo when he heard something in the bushes nearby.He ignored the sound at first,but then the bush moved.It moved closer and closer...until a cute baby panda popped out.

It was frightened and hungry Peter immediately offered it some bamboo.''What is your name little guy?'' asked Peter. "My name is Lee,I was captured by some means villagers who wanted to sell me,but I managed to escape.What is your name?'' asked Lee."My name is Peter.We should leave this zoo.I'll take as much bamboo as I can and we will leave first thing tomorrow.

Meanwhile back at the village the villagers found out Lee had escaped and where very angry.They looked for Lee everywhere,but everywhere they looked Lee was not found.On the tenth day of their search they finally gave up.

Lee and Peter where already in Mongolia living a happy life on a bamboo farm with other pandas.

This week we learned about Global Problems. We opened two websites:

The Zoom out game

Let’s play the “Zoom Out” game! It’s fun, easy, and collaborative! Just take a look at the picture below. What do you think is happening? How did that happen? What is the story behind this? I just need one commenter to get the story going, and the rest of us will continue to add ONE comment until his story is told. Just follow these simple guidelines to contribute to our mysterious story:
First commenter starts the story in the comments below by writing one sentence (include subject in photo).
The next commenter copies the sentence, pastes it in their comment, and adds onto the story by writing the next thing they would see if the picture was “Zoomed Out.”
This process continues until the story ends.
